DEADLINES EXTENDED until February 15 for the Sierra Pacific Workshop!
Because so many of you may have been affected by the Federal Government shutdown, we have extended the deadlines to submit Call-for-Presenters and Scholarship applications for the upcoming Sierra Pacific (Region 9) Workshop, April 5-7 in Columbia, CA.
Scholarships for the regional workshop are open to any Sierra Pacific Region member, based on need. The deadline is now Friday, February 15. The Scholarship application here.
Presentation proposals to give a talk at the workshop are also due on Friday, February 15. The Call-for-Presenters application is here.
The Workshop Committee is in full swing, preparing for our annual gathering. We hope you will join us in Columbia, to rediscover, refocus, refresh or perhaps reach out for the first time with your fellow interpreters.
Pass the word to friends, students and colleagues!

Be a presenter at the annual Sierra Pacific (Region 9) National Association for Interpretation (NAI) Spring 2019 Workshop, April 5-7, 2019 at Columbia State Historic Park in Columbia, California!
This year’s theme “Digging Deeper: Mining the Past for History’s Untold Stories” invites
presentations and presenters that seek beyond the usual stories and approaches, to reflect a broader spectrum of peoples, places and ideas. What “under-told” tales have you brought forward? What techniques and collaborations helped you to create programs, engage communities, and communicate the richness of your place?
Apply here!
The 2019 Region 9 Workshop will be held April 5-7 at Columbia State Historic Park near Sonora, California. Save the date!
This note is for anyone who works with amazing interpreters… and that’s basically everyone!
We are looking for nominations for “Interpreter(s) of the Month” for the NAI Region 9 Newsletter. If you work with someone who shows dedication and passion doing what they love to do, then please let us know about them! We want to recognize the good work being done in our Region.
Contact Ryan Bangs (ryanbangssmc2015[at]gmail.com) to nominate an interpreter you know. All that is needed is a few sentences on why you believe they are so amazing.
Thanks!
With a long history leading the profession of Interpretation, our members from across California, Nevada, and the Pacific Islands continue to inspire and convey the meanings within our cultural and natural assets. From the Rangers in California State Parks, to the Naturalists guiding whale watches in Hawaii, and the interpreters working to share the stories of the first peoples of Nevada; our members work in parks, museums, aquariums, art galleries and many other locations. We endeavor to share the meaningful stories of the people, places, and ideas that we all hold dear.
The Sierra Pacific Region is a small part of a larger community of professional interpreters. Through this website, trainings, workshops, and many other opportunities, we strive to support and grow the Interpretive Profession and the people that our profession impacts.
